Tips for Easy Traveling with your Pets

Just like people, every animal has a different tolerance for car or plane

rides. Some throw up or drool, others pace back and forth with anxiety

or agitation and some are just generally miserable.

Animals with the best health have the fewest problems, so the long

term goal is discovering what makes your companion the healthiest.

First, try a few test rides to see if there are any problems.

Most cats and dogs do best if not fed within 12 hours of a trip. Some

fare better with a light meal.

Your state of mind influences them, so if you are anxious from past

travels, treat yourself – Reiki, Rescue Remedy, Lavender Oil,

Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping).

Help them love their carrier - feed them in it, put treats in it. If flying,

research the proper size and type. These next steps may take a few

days or months. Carefully observe as you want to stop prior to them

becoming upset at all.

  • Lots of rewards.

  • Close the door.

  • Pick it up.

  • Walk to door.

  • Open door

  • Walk to car

  • Open door and get in

  • Sit there

  • Start car

  • Drive ½ block, etc.

Anxiety or nausea can be helped with Reiki, Anxiety Wrap, Flower

Essences, Essential oils or hydrosols (must be organic and food grade),

Healing Touch for Animals, Homeopathy, Herbs, Acupressure, Chinese

herbs, catnip in the crate.

Thinking ahead makes a big difference, so research pet friendly hotels

and bring a water filter or water from home along with ID tags and

relevant phone numbers. Since I see many behavioral and health

issues starting after vaccination, time them well before a trip.

By tracking all symptoms exhibited in the car and at home in a journal,

you will know which combination of treatments is the best. Keeping

the journal will guide you to maximum health so your pets will not

mind traveling at all and you’ll have a record of the fun times with

your pets.

learn more and order one that makes it fun and easy to keep.
